They’ll be good listeners – because they spend long periods of time with other people in small spaces, an important aspect of being in the Navy is the ability to communicate well.
When you’re in the armed forces, dating can be a daunting prospect for you as you contend with your date never having dated a military professional before, your awkward working pattern, and a whole host of other concerns that sometimes have to take precedence over your Friday night together.
I was inspired to write this post because a young man at a craft show last weekend asked me what it was like to be a Navy significant other. I love my man’s dress whites, but all the branches have a cool dress uniform. My trip to Guam wouldn’t have been possible without the support and assistance of other ladies! It’s definitely not something that you can count on being able to do, but it’s a really nice possibility! I obviously miss him when he’s gone, whether it’s overnight for duty, several days (or weeks) or an underway, or months of deployment, but it makes me really value the time we do get to spend together and means I’m always excited and looking forward to seeing him again.
He was shopping for his girlfriend and is a Citadel cadet who’s graduating in the spring and planning to attend Navy OCS. People usually talk abut the stresses and difficulties of running everything while their s/o is away, but I whenever I get frustrated, I remind myself of the up side to these absences and departures.
They wear one of the sexiest uniforms on the planet – everyone loves a military uniform, and the Navy one is no exception.

What if your partner is only being told the good parts?

People in the Navy have that special air of mystery that comes from travelling around the world by boat, and of course they’re doing a very important and brave job so they’re often considered to be heroes.
